The Common Plants Survey is a long-term project monitoring changes to the wild flowers in our countryside. It is the only national annual survey of wild plants in the UK.

Plantlife Director Dr Jayne Manley explains, "This year we are looking to substantially increase the numbers of volunteers taking part, to glean an accurate a picture as possible of the health of our wild plants."

External factors are having an enormous impact on our environment and, in the past five years since the survey started, we are already recording significant changes in the countryside. The success of the Common Plants Survey rests entirely on volunteers and it is vital that we hit our recruitment target to really make a difference.

So improve your identification skills and help give a better understanding of species coverage in the UK!

I have to do a Java EE Server survey as a decision making document. Reason is that my company recently developed a Web 2.0 application using jboss and glassfish. Now, since my company is an IBM Premium Businesss Partner there's no chance to not take WAS into account.

I have to take the long road through the server jungle now to find the appropriate ones to use and to support as a platform for our application. Any suggestions out there?

Anyway, I'll let you know about my results in the next couple of days. Maybe there are some out there having the same task.

Instead, a lot of people still believe in the creativity of their sons. “He knows a lot of things. You must see how he uses the computer”, say many parents. To filter the content still is a challenge to most parents and educators. In some cases, the exposition to erotic content is accidental. It was what published the New Hampshire University. The objective of study was to consider the exposition to improper content among adolescents with 10 even 17 years old. Five years before the first Survey made in 1999 e 2000, the results were surprising: 34% of young Internet users had access to erotic sites in accidental way. 51% of the adolescents were girls.

Have you ever peed in the woods?
Of course

Is it okay for guys to wear pink?
I don't care, I won't.

When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?
a week ago, and I have to write one right after this to the same buddy in prison.

Can you change the oil on a car?
Probably

Do you live near your best friend?
Those guys are living in Los Angeles now. THE BIG TIME! mama mia

What's the best eye color for the opposite sex?
I don't know, whatever works

Are you taller than 5'5"?
I'm a big man

If you're being extremely quiet whats the matter?
Just don't talk to me leave me alone, I'm busy and your slowing me down.

Does anyone like you?
I believe so

What is your full name?
David Joseph Stakun

Any tattoos?
Not my scene

Whats wrong with you right now?
Nothing at all

Are you jealous of anyone right now?
I i'm not really sure I've ever been jealous of anybody.

When's the last time you did something you knew was wrong?
Last night I had a dream that I married a girl and the next day I was trying to convince her to please get an annulment and she wouldn't have it. Then I woke up, phew.

I usually don't do stuff I think is wrong.

If you could get rid of anything in this world, what would it be?
Idiots, non ambitious wastes of space

You can only drink ONE liquid for the rest of your life, what is it?
water

Are you anything like you were at this point last year?
I am the same kid I was when I was 12 I don't nor have patience for people still trying to find them self. I got it over with when I was 12 and started living.

Do you ever think "what if" about anything
No. Aside from funny hypotheticals.

Do you judge people you don't know?
Not really, but usually after they say a few things I know them. Then start judging, but only if they are jokers. Then there's like pink shirted popped colored jon goti hair cut gelled hair guido hair cut with sandals and a god chain with a cross on it folks, but are those even people?

My computer.

Do you hate when couples are like "i love you" after dating for about 2 days?
Sometimes shit just works out for them, However I feel this is referencing the people that are extremely fake about it, and hold the relationship to be the most important thing on the outside to show everybody. In that case, yes your a ridiculous person, Please advertise your fairy tale on your myspace bulletins for the world to see, then certainly tell the world when it didn't work out and your are soooo heartbroken. I'm not even really being sarcastic, please do it, I love watching crappy relationships that are fake unravel as every day goes by I get more excited for the break up.

What "type" of people do you dislike?
Most people

Are you friends with someone who lies about the stupidest shit ever?
no

Would you rather your partner have gorgeous eyes or a gorgeous smile?

Can a boy and girl be friends without having feelings for each other?
I guess

Your favorite tv show?
Space Ghost, the Office, Arrested Development, Mythbusters

Song you're listening to right now?
Bush- Machine head

Someone knocks on your window at 2am, who do you want it to be?
I wouldn't want to find out

Do you think too much or too little ?
Full throttle, even in my sleep. Super machine

Besides family, who was the last person to tell you that they love you?
Who Cares!

Have you ever crawled through a window?
Last week in town I walked into a bar through the window

Do you like yourself?
I'm the only one on my team I have to

What's something that can always make you feel better?
puppy's kittens maybe.

Is there anyone you wish was still in your life?
I guess not. I'm sure some people I can't think of right now.

Would you date someone 7 years older than you?
yeah.
Have you ever done something you told yourself you wouldn't do?

Deadline extended for residents to help shape the future of Skegness
EAST Lindsey District Council h

Deadline extended for residents to help shape the future of Skegness

EAST Lindsey District Council has welcomed the opportunity to extend the deadline for their initial Skegness Voice questionnaire, which gives local residents the opportunity to shape the future of their much-loved town. Following a tour of his ward and the town, Councillor Edginton identified that some local residents may have missed the opportunity to participate in the study if they have been away on holiday during the summer season, when the forms were circulated by Royal Mail. The District Council has worked closely with Royal Mail to monitor the delivery schedule. Where any issues have been identified an alternative delivery method has been used. Other options for participation include on-line, street questionnaires and collection from our Customer Access Point.

Business Manager, Gary Sargeant explains: “We are committed to putting our residents at the heart of all we do. This survey is the biggest consultation exercise we have undertaken with users of Skegness on what they would like to see developed or improved in the town. We are excited and ambitious about the positive changes that our communities can help us to deliver in Skegness. We hope that by extending the deadline to the October 1 will encourage more residents to share their thoughts and ideas with us so that we can move forward together.”

Over the last six weeks Royal Mail has circulated questionnaires to over 21,000 local households. All households with a post-code in Skegness and the surrounding area should have received a form through a guaranteed delivery contract. Additional forms have been made available at various buildings throughout Skegness, including the Town Hall, Embassy Centre and Tourist Information Centre. Completed forms are free to return by post and do not even require an envelope. Questionnaires can also be completed online at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk or returned via a ballot box in the Embassy Centre foyer.

If you would like to participate in the survey but have not yet received a questionnaire, please contact the Council on 01507 601111.

Following on from the outrage generated by the Policy Exchange think tank's suggestion that the North was beyond saving and we should all move to Cambridge, we asked for your opinions in our quick poll on our main website.

We asked 'Has regeneration failed in the North?' Over two weeks 646 of you voted and an overwhelming 91.95% agreed. So perhaps the policy think tank wasn't so wrong after all! Now, this was only a simple yes / no question about a much more complex subject. But is this really representative of our visitors' views?

This week we are asking - following the successful Mathew Street Festival, should the local authority fund public entertainment or should the city's business community do more to financially support the festival? Visit the Chamber's main home page to cast your vote, or share your ideas on this blog.

I was feeling particularly happy today and was wondering if it had anything to do with the fat payme

I was feeling particularly happy today and was wondering if it had anything to do with the fat payment I received for a writing assignment. So I set about doing some research and find out that the Freakonomics blog has beaten me to it. Since they have said it so well I will simply summarize it.

1) Rich people are happier than poor people.
2) Richer countries are happier than poorer countries.
3) As countries get richer, they tend to get happier.

Moreover, each of these facts seems to suggest a roughly similar relationship between income and happiness.

What explains these new findings? The key turns out to be an accumulation of data over recent decades. Thirty years ago it was difficult to make convincing international comparisons because there were few datasets comparing rich and poor countries. Instead, researchers were forced to make comparisons based on a handful of moderately-rich and very-rich countries. These data just didn’t lend themselves to strong conclusions.

Moreover, repeated happiness surveys around the world have allowed us to observe the evolution of G.D.P. and happiness through time — both over a longer period, and for more countries. On balance, G.D.P. and happiness have tended to move together.

There is a second issue here that has led to mistaken inferences: a tendency to confuse absence of evidence for a proposition as evidence of its absence. Thus, when early researchers could not isolate a statistically reliable association between G.D.P. and happiness, they inferred that this meant the two were unrelated, and a paradox was born.

Can you the awful lot of crowding at the right hand top corner...these are the rich happy countries.

last month, i mentioned philip zimbardo briefly in a post about social science experiments and the ways in which they can go horribly wrong. you will remember him as the director of the infamous stanford prison experiments, in which students were asked to roleplay as guards and prisoners in a basement. during the roleplay, many guards became drunk with their make-believe power and became abusive, bullying tyrants to the mock prisoners, who themselves became easily cowed. while it was not conducted under the rigors of an academic institutional review board, and thus proved to be traumatic for the subjects involved, it was nonetheless a fascinating foray into what happens to society when power is unevenly distributed.

because i am a nearly fanatical believer in the importance of social science research-- and because i secretly fear that, in my last post about zimbardo, i might have come across as overly judgmental of a man for whom i actually have a great deal of respect-- i am posting below from the hero workshop, a site created by matt langdon:

you may know him from the stanford prison experiment. maybe you used his “psychology and life” text book in college or saw his “discovery psychology” tv series on pbs. or perhaps you’ve read his recent book, “the lucifer effect”. now phil zimbardo needs you.

dr. philip zimbardo, with a team of researchers, is beginning a new study concerning helpful behavior. the goal is to discover how individuals perceive the behavior of helpfulness.

the first step is to conduct a survey with as many participants as possible. that’s where you come in. the survey takes about 30 minutes and can be found at www.socialpsychresearch.org.

i’ve been part of the development of this survey. zeno franco and kathy blau, more so. so obviously i’d love it if you could complete the survey and make sure this study flies.

i know from experience that one of the hardest parts of social science research is generating enough interest in the people you intend to study. this sounds like some interesting research conducted by an eager and knowledgeable team, but it won't go far if it doesn't get help from people like you. the survey is a quick and painless series of multiple-choice questions. if you have a few minutes to spare, click the link above and register your opinion on altruism, heroism, and helpful behavior.
