Here's the synopsis:

Laida is a modern-day Belle. She works hard to provide for her family while believing that someday she will meet her prince charming and they will live happily ever after together. That prince charming is none other than Miggy Montenegro, the youngest of the Montenegro clan—a well established family in the business world. Laida dreams of meeting Miggy every day and every night. These dreams lead her to apply as an Editorial Assistant at Miggy’s newly established men’s magazine Bachelor despite it being a long shot, hoping that working in the company will allow her to be close to the man who invades her dreams every night.
By some sort of luck, Laida lands the job. Overwhelmed by the being in the presence of her crush, and by her instant employment, Laida remains blind to the fact that the Miggy she dreams of is very different from the real one. Miggy in person is a hothead who thinks he’s always right. The word “sorry” doesn’t mean anything to him. Everyone is scared of him, except Laida, who is always ready to defend her dream man. Blindly she caters to his whim, even when he sent her to be his proxy on his date with his girlfriend, breaking her heart a little. Her co-workers question her unrelenting dedication to such a monster but when Laida proves quite loyal to the man, gossip about Laida’s feelings for their boss starts to circulate. Laida, to defend herself, unwittingly reveals information about Miggy’s personal life which earns her his ire. Being shouted at for the first time by the man she dreams of opens Laida’s eyes to reality. And her awakening in turn leads to Miggy’s rude awakening of why people do not like him.

No one has ever talked back to Miggy before. No one dared tell him their opinions and or suggestions. Miggy was always right and that’s how he likes it. But when Laida, a simpleton who just follows his every command tells him to his face that he is wrong, Miggy begins to wonder if the reason for his failures could actually be him. For the first time Miggy apologizes. And this opens the door to a whole new world of a lot of “firsts” for Miggy. With the help of Laida, Miggy slowly learns to be a teamplayer. With the help of Laida, Miggy slowly learns the value of loyalty.

But Miggy’s conflict with his siblings keeps pulling Miggy back to his old ways, and not even Laida’s presence in his life can clear the shadow casted on him by his family. Laida does everything she knows just to help Miggy at the expense of time with her family. As Laida and Miggy’s fight to save the magazine become more intense, so is their fight to keep their intentions and emotions at bay. Will Laida and Miggy ever figure out the right combination to solve their problems in business and in their personal lives? Or will their mismatching personalities, despite their common interest and goal keep them from ever figuring out their perfect pair?

I really don't watch Filipino movies on the big screen as a rule, my rule.  People say it is a formulaic movie.  Yes, it is.  But I love it still.   Why?  Because it was romantic, funny, the dramatic scenes are just right, the lead stars are excellent, the supporting casts are very good.  It leaves you with a light feeling plus you have LSS (last song syndrome) and you have at least one favorite line.  My only pet peeves are Sarah's wig, the rain effect, and the movie should have been longer.   Sarah was a revelation.  She CAN act.  It even looked like she was not acting because she was so natural in it.  Well, she had training with soap dramas anyway.  John Lloyd as always delivers, enough said.  The supporting casts have their own highlights in the movie.  The director, Cathy Garcia Molina, did it again.  She is probably one of the masters in this genre, funny romantic movies, or rom-com as they coined (romantic comedy).   This is presumably a low-budget movie for Star Cinema.  There are no out-of-the-country locations like in previous movies, only out-of-town LOL!  The fact that they used Luneta, considered the most jologs location, to shoot some scenes and made it work with the sappy singing and rain effect (that missed in one short scene) is commendable.  It still worked for me and for the other people in the movie house as evidenced by the crowd's enthusiastic response.

I got to say, I have never experienced watching a movie like this, ever.  Well, except for Schindler's List and that's a serious movie so the 'appreciation' was only heard after the movie.  The first time I watched this movie, I was kind of debating inside whether I should watch this or not or just watch another movie.  I have just watched Batman so I decided to pick this.  While buying the ticket, I was literally looking at the back then sideways, to see if someone I know could see me. LOL!  It's like a covert operation.  So secretive.  Hahaha.  Inside the cinema, I noticed it was half-full considering it's a week day, meaning work day and school day and it was lunch time.

Before the start of the movie, there were movie trailers shown as was customary.  The For The First Time movie trailer was shown.  I guess no one expected it cause there was no reaction.  Not a sound.  For me, it was like "Uh okay, whatever."  I got to say Santorini, Greece is beautiful.  I just put it in my list of places I dream to go.  The movie itself, however, failed to attract me to watch it.  Presumably it's a love story.  Boy meets girl or vice versa just like in AVSL.  Only this one, it did not intrigue me.  Miggy's personality is very intriguing to say the least.  I wanted to see whether Laida's bubbliness and positive outlook would last in the presence of Mr. Gloomy Guy.  In FTFT, I expect the lead characters will fall in love eventually.  Obviously, there is a conflict based on the crying/argument scene.  It's just that I didn't buy it.  Both of them are beutiful physically.  The location is breath taking.  The story is so-so.  Much more typical than AVSL.

Although AVSL is a typical boy-meets-girl or girl-meets-boy story, it does not center solely on this.  The movie devoted a good part of it on family matters.  As I have said before, there are lots of funny scenes.  I simply love the crowd (the people watching the movie).  We were all in synch. LOL!  Giggling, smiling, laughing, crying at the same time, etc.  They laughed out loud, no holds barred.  I was amazed!  People are clearly enjoying the movie so much that sometimes I coudn't hear the lines being delivered because of the noise.  Some of it I only understood on my second time watching it. Hahaha!  It was funny because I could also hear lots of people crying left and right.

Overall, I rate this movie 4.5 out of 5 because of the minor flaws.  This movie just made it to my all time favorite romantic movies list along with Got 2 Believe and others that are too many to mention.

PS:  Did I mention that they kissed only once and it was not even a proper kiss, just a smack on the lips.  And people is still raving about it that it was sooooooooooooooo romantic and soooooooooooo kilig! Winner!

Can a meek editorial assistant (played by Sarah Geronimo) fall in love with an aggressive publisher (played by John Lloyd Cruz)? Will their office romance bloom or will it be nipped in the bud?

Anyone who has had to deal with a difficult boss will relate to the character of Laida (played by Sarah Geronimo), an editorial assistant who has to gratify all the demands of a magazine publisher named Miggy (played by John Lloyd Cruz). They initially have gaps between them but later on, they come to realize the good qualities of each other while working on the magazine called Bachelor.

This is the first time that John Lloyd and Sarah will be paired up on the big screen and both of them are excited to see the reactions of their fans.

"I am very proud of this movie, as usual, Direk Cathy is superb and si Sarah, ang galing galing niya. I never expected that A Very Special Love will be very special to us and hopefully, sa mga manonood din na sumusuporta sa akin, kay Direk [Cathy] at kay Sarah through the years, in our individual efforts," says John Lloyd.

Sarah, on the other hand, cherishes the good memories that she had while making this. "Nag-iisa si John Lloyd Cruz, hindi mo matatawaran talaga ang galing niya at napaka-professional. It's a dream come true sa akin na mabigyan ng pagkakataon na makatrabaho siya at sana, maulit pa."

When asked whether her character will fulfill her own dreams in the movie, Sarah could only say, "Siyempre lahat naman tayo we root for Laida na matupad na ma-in love sa kanya ang kanyang Prince Charming na si Miggy ‘di ba? Pero ‘yan iiwan ko na para sa sagutin ng pelikula."
Box-office director Cathy Garcia Molina and John Lloyd have collaborated on several movies already such as Close To You (2006) and last year's box-office winner One More Chance. But this is the first time that Direk Cathy has worked with Sarah Geronimo.

With A Very Special Love being part of Star Cinema's 15th anniversary, Direk Cathy can't help but be proud of this film, especially since this is her fifth project with ABS-CBN's film outfit. "Siyempre po natutuwa ako na makasama yung pelikulang ‘to, ang A Very Special Love sa 15th anniversary ng Star Cinema. Una kong nakita ung picture naalala ko ung bidang robot sa Zettai Kareshi [gwafu! like ko tong japanese drama to tragic pero type ko parin] na parang may anggulo ni machete [yes, remember Gardo Versoza at Osang days] kung mukha lang talaga ang titignan solb na solb na ako kasi naman gwapito naman ung guy [Daniel Wu, haha ngaun ko lang din to nakilala :D] pero nung makita ko ung pubic hair taena naisip ko pede kaya yan gayahin ng mga brand satin na ma low rise pants, kyabo! calling mr. ben chan!!! kaya mo ba yan? kaya ba yan ng bench? try nga natin kay fafa John Lloyd Cruz :lol: tiyak, mapapakanta sa version ni sarah ng... "i got a very special love in you...~~~"

speaking of fafa Lloydie, kasama nya si Angel Locsin sa mga cast ng remake ng isa pang Thalia's series ang "Maria Mercedes". Eto ang hinde ko matanggap ang korean series na FullHouse gagawan ng GMA7 ng remake. Syet hinde ko kayang tanggapin! wala nang babagay pa sa role na yun maliban kina Rain at Song Hye Kyo. Utang na loob tigilan na natin ang remake, mag isip naman tayo ng something original. PERIOD.

I was initially skeptical about this movie project of Star Cinema.

First, if one mentions Sarah Geronimo's name, I automatically remember her as a singer, not as an actress. I know about her TV series in the past, but those few times I watched them can't be a good gauge of her acting skill.

Second, if one mentions John Lloyd Cruz's name, I automatically associate him with Bea Alonzo. Their love team has a huge following, and their chemistry has been tried and tested by the producers. I know the guy can act and that he is more than ready to go solo. But honestly, Sarah is simply not the leading lady I have in mind.

I saw the trailer three weeks ago, I must admit it had curious. "Mukhang nakakaaliw," said one of the girls in the office.

But when I finally saw movie, I must say my initial reservations were unfounded. "It's nakakaaliw...and more"

Here are five reasons why it's a must-see movie:

1. Sarah Geronimo is a natural. She can be ridiculously funny, utterly charming, and madly in love with the man of her dreams without being OA (overacting) or TH (trying hard). I like the way she assimilated the character of Laida. It's as if the role was created for her.

Another thing, she's not self-conscious at all, unlike some of the young actresses who seem more concerned about how they look. In short, walang arte and walang kiyeme. Her portrayal of the role reminds me of Anne Hathaway in Princess Diaries and even The Devil Wears Prada.

She's really hilarious and cute!

2. John Lloyd is quite effective in playing the "Scrooge" character of Miggy. I am using the word "quite," because it is quite impossible to despise a guy who's very handsome on screen. As a young boss who runs a magazine, he is difficult to work with, but not formidable enough. I don't know if that's the director's real intent.

The scene with his dad, who is played by Dante Rivero, is one stirring moment. John Lloyd's delivery, his facial expression, and his emotions are all expressed intensely. I find myself crying as well.

He looks good and he is good.

3. The movie has a commendable cast. Rowell Santiago, who is Miggy's hard-to-please half-brother, has a very satisfactory performance. He has very few scenes with the male lead, but he's successful in wreaking havoc on his younger brother's life.

Dante Rivero's few lines have rendered the moviegoers speechless, while Matet de Leon's one-liner has elicited cheers from most of the people in the cinema.

4. The story is neither too profound nor too light. Tamang-tama sa panlasa ng Pinoy.

It's about a guy who has always wanted to be number one, even at the expense of the people around him and that one person who truly loves him.

It's about a young girl whose views about life and love are very optimistic. But when she finally encounters the harsh realities, she realizes the downside of her being idealistic.

It's about finding one's self, accepting the will of fate, and being brave enough to pursue happiness.

The movie is successful in making the people laugh, and even more successful in making them so kilig. Whether the viewer is single or in love or heartbroken, the movie will make him/her feel good. And please, take note of the lines—they might come in handy.

The movie has introduced several out of the box ideas—the post-it notes on the boss's cup of coffee, the now popular "rain dance," and of course, Miggy's super kilig way of winning back the heart of Laida.

There are a few lapses, like the distracting hairdo of Laida and the lighting effect during that "rainy" scene towards the end, but I will not make an issue out of them.

What's important is that the movie has erased my skepticism about Sarah's acting, her first team-up with John Lloyd, and even...love!

sarah geronimo is one of the philippines most popular recording artists, tv celebrity and now trying to break through philippine movies. she has also metamorphosed from a simple and pretty chinita to today's gorgeous and stunning  women celebtrity.

So I just got back from watching this movie. I didn't see any of its trailers/teasers nor read any of its synopses on the net. If the people in the office hadn't been talking about it I probably wouldn't have known about it at all. Oh no wait, I would've, because I was in Glorietta the day John Lloyd and Sarah were there for their mall tour! I got to see John Lloyd in person! Hehe! ;) He was a bit far from me though, but whatever. Anyway, the only thing I knew about this really, apart from the fact that John Lloyd finally has a new leading lady in a movie (Note: Before this, I haven't seen him with anyone other than Bea Alonzo. Has he made any movies with other girls?), is that the director, Cathy Garcia-Molina, has so far directed all the nicest local romantic comedies I've seen so far. At the top of the list are her earlier works Got 2 Believe with Rico Yan and Claudine Baretto (although she was only the associate director for this), and Bcuz of U (2002). But trust me, the ones she directed after that were all great as well.

So yeah, in case it isn't obvious yet, the point I'm getting at is that the direction for this movie was great. The timing of the lines and the jokes were perfect, and the expressions of the actors weren't exaggerrated or anything, even during the heavy drama scenes.

The story was actually pretty simple, idealistic assistant girl falls for pig-headed boss guy. Very very formulaic of a romantic comedy. But there is something about it that made it very Filipino. It had a lot of "family issues". And for once, the family issues were on the part of the guy, and not the girl. I think it makes for a very good change. :) So, this movie is nothing phenomenal, but it's a good average run-of-the-mill romantic comedy that doesn't completely waste your time. I like it tons better than When Love Begins and it doesn't try so hard to incorporate the drama stuff in it, like You Are the One and a bunch of others.

Also, I didn't like Sarah's look very much. Although I think they intentionally made her look not very pretty because the point was that the cool handsome boss guy can fall for an "ordinary" girl, and I like the fact that there weren't any scenes wherein she "changed" and suddenly became all sexy and poised and beautiful. So maybe that was a good call after all.

There is one thing I didn't like though-- the ending. Spoilers aside, I think it was just too long. There was too much dialog and personally, I think the girl asked too much from the guy. I think it got too long because they wanted John Lloyd to do more things, but it all seemed a bit rushed to me. I think it would've been better if they'd spread out throughout the movie the things he did in the ending. And I didn't like the request Sarah's character (her name's Laida, by the way) made. I think it would've been better if she hadn't said anything like it, or if she'd said only one sentence. It was just too long, like she was also making a speech when in fact, a speech from her, isn't needed anymore since she's already said her piece several scenes before then. Oh well. Maybe that's just me, and I'm sure they just put in all those lines and other stuff for "fan service".

Magandang senyales daw kasi ang pagma-mature na ng ating movie viewers pagdating sa pagkilatis ng isang magandang pelikula. Hindi na daw tulad ng dati na ang personal na relasyon ng mga bida lang ang tinitingnan ng manonood sa isang movie. Concerned na rin sila sa husay ng mga nagsiganap na artista, ganda ng script, at galing ng pagkaka-direct nito.

THE END OF JOHN LLOYD-BEA? Katulad na lang ng magandang onscreen chemistry at mahusay na pagganap nina John Lloyd at Sarah sa A Very Special Love. May nagbigay tuloy ng komento na may katotohanan nga yata ang kinatatakutan ng mga John Lloyd-Bea [Alonzo] fans na baka tuluyan nang buwagin ang tambalan nilang dalawa.

Sa panayam ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) kay John Lloyd sa nakaraang premiere night ng A Very Special Love, sinigurado niyang hindi naman mangyayari ang pinangangambahan na ito ng mga tagahanga nila ni Bea.

"Dumaan man ang ilang pelikula ko na wala siya [Bea] o kahit magkaroon siya ng pelikula na wala ako, gagawa at gagawa pa rin kami ni Bea na mga projects, mapa-pelikula man o TV na kami ang magkasama."

Masayang-masaya sa mainit na pagtanggap ng tao nang gabing iyon sa tambalan nila ni Sarah, para kay John Lloyd ay naihatid nila ang intensyon nilang maiparating sa publiko. Ito ay ang pagbibigay ng puso sa pelikula.

"Basta ang alam ko si Sarah, nag-shine siya sa movie na ito. She's the biggest revelation in this movie. Iisipin mo napakasimple lang ng role niya, kahit siya sinasabi niya na ‘di malayo sa kanya. Light lang pero kung paano niya binigyan ng buhay ‘yung light na sinasabi niya, kung alam ninyo lang kung gaano kahirap yun... I think any performer or actress will agree with me na ‘di porke't sinabi mong light, ‘di lang puro light ang atake talaga. Dalawang dimension yung atake niya, ang galing-galing.

"Habang nagda-dubbing ako nun, napapanood ko siya, bit by bit. Pero nung nakita ko siya nung isang latagan, sabi ko, ‘di ko na kailangang i-promote, ‘di ko na kailangang papurihan si Sarah. Marami-rami na kaming promotions na nagawa. Sinasabi ko ito hindi para i-promote yung pelikula namin pero sa tingin ko sobrang galing talaga ni Sarah dito."

Sa tanong namin kung bukas ba siya sa isang bagong proyekto na magkasama sila uli ni Sarah, nakakatakot ang isinagot sa PEP ng aktor.

"Nakakatakot kasi kung maging successful ang movie na ito, paano mo mapapantayan yung una? Nakatakot, but I would definitely welcome the idea of doing another movie movie with Sarah."

STAYING OR GOING? Naging kontrobersyal ang nakaraang Bench Blackout kung saan nagreklamo si Annabelle Rama na ipu-pull out na raw niya ang anak niyang si Richard Gutierrez sa nasabing clothing line dahil daw may favoritism na nangyayari dito. Nagkataon naman na katulad ni Piolo Pascual na dapat sana'y nasa fashion show, wala rin si John Lloyd doon. Kinabukasan after the show, may usap-usapan nang kasabay daw ni Richard ay aalis na rin daw si John Lloyd as a Bench endorser.

"'Di ako nakasama because obviously it's matter of priority. May ipapalabas akong pelikula, gumagawa ako ng mga post-prod na trabaho sa pelikulang ito, ‘di pa tapos ang post prod, I was dubbing. Sa tingin ko naman naiintindihan ng Bench na kailangang gawin ‘yun. Kung ‘di ko tinapos ‘yun [movie post-prod], ‘di magiging ganito yung pelikula.

"Wala kong offers sa iba, wala akong planong lumipat. Wala akong tampo kay Ben Chan. I'm happy with Bench."

SA totoo lang, ang dami nang nag-aabang ng showing ng A Very Special Love nina Sarah Geronimo at John Lloyd Cruz. Pati nga kami ay naiinip na’t pinangako namin sa sarili na panoorin ito sa sinehan dahil naaliw kami talaga sa trailer. Ang patikim na nakikita natin sa trailer ay nakaka-engganyo and in fact, pinag-uusapan na nga ito.

Ang cute ng mga napiling scenes partikular na ang eksenang sumasayaw si Sarah para pigilin ang ulan.

Tumatak din sa paulit-ulit na trailer ang pagiging masungit ng karakter ni John Lloyd at ang kunot niyang noo pag nagagalit. In fairness, kakaiba ang role niya rito. Kaaliw din ‘yung scene na sigaw nang sigaw si John Lloyd habang natataranta si Sarah.

Ang isa pang inaabangan sa movie, bukod sa first team-up ito nina John Lloyd at Sarah ay ang mga catchy lines ng dalawa na tatak na ng direktor na si Cathy Garcia-Molina.

I think that John Lloyd's ability to make another loveteam work despite being associated with Bea Alonzo for a long time means that he is really a great actor. I think he is one of the best Filipino actors today. Let's support his movie!

The story is about proving if an excessive love of a woman can make the man return the love that she has given. In the movie, the Pop Princess, Sarah Geronimo will play a fresh graduate who's motivation is to apply for a job on the magazine publishing company where the man of her dreams is the boss, and it is played by 2007 Box-Office King, John Lloyd Cruz.

A Very Special Love is about two young people with totally different backgrounds but they discover that love truly knows no barriers.

Sarah plays Laida, the breadwinner of her family. John Lloyd is Miggy of the Montenegro clan, the owner of several businesses including a publishing firm that he manages.

Laida is hired as an editorial assistant of one of the magazines named Bachelor, which Miggy publishes. The boss decides to make Laida his own personal assistant and even forces to pretend to be his girlfriend during an event. Pretty soon, Laida's dedication to her job and the special attention that she was receiving from the big boss caught the attention of the other employees. She became the butt of jokes and gossip started being spread about her in the office.

To save face, Laida revealed a secret about Miggy, which, of course angered the male executive. When Miggy reacted to her embarrassing revelation, Laida defended herself by citing the faults that she saw in him: that he was a snob and a braggart. Upon realizing his mistakes, Miggy apologized to Laida and promised to change. Will this be the way for the two of them learn to care for each other? Or will it will a one-sided love affair? Is it possible for someone like her to fall in love with a guy who is a snob and a braggart?

According to Direk Cathy, “Its about a girl who’s a dreamer, who wants to be more than what she is now.  Simple, ordinary just like all of us.  And a guy who is there at the top, rich, handsome, owns his own business, he is everything you’ll ever want. So how do they fall in love, how will they meet? “Personally”, she added, “what I want to answer is: If you love someone, do you have to ask for your love to be returned? Do you have to wait for that someone to love you back?”

The male actor, John Lloyd, who won the Best Actor Award in the recently concluded Golden Screen Awards of the Enpress, is very positive about his new leading lady.

Sarah Geronimo in one of her interviews told the press that she hopes that the viewers will accept their tandemn. Both John Lloyd and Sarah feels at ease with each other, that during one of her performances at ASAP, when John Lloyd suddenly went up the stage, she started laughing even if she was supposed to be singing. On my own opinion, when Sarah looks at John Lloyd, i see someone who is secretly inlove with someone(i wonder who he is...). Even the press people tease them on how close they are. One of the proof of how close they were was when John Lloyd even hinted to Sarah in one of their interviews while coughing(as a joke and hint) that what he wants for his birthday was an ipod which he still doesn’t have.

The movie was supposed to have been released last June but it was reset to July 30 so as to make more preparations for the movie. One thing is for sure though, with a funny and romantic movie such as this, adding the fact that it has superb casts like Sarah and John Lloyd, its definitely going to be a hit! And ill be the first ones who will line up to watch it! See you at the cinema!

I must say watching it is very therapeutic. I got more than the recommended 8-minute dose of laughter. Sarah is always a joy to watch. I had stopped following any local teleserye already, but whenever I could catch Pangarap na Bituin, I would watch it because of Sarah. ABS-CBN should seriously consider teaming them up in a romantic-comedy series, but please, no more Kdrama, Mexican telenovela, or any remake.
