Paul Potts
Paul won Britain’s Got Talent’s first season. After that, he’s been all around the world gracing everybody with his heart-stopping voice. In fact, he’ll be here in Manila on October 8 at the PICC. But with all the fame and opportunities, I still believe that his best performance was during his first audition. I’ve downloaded this video from YouTube so I can watch it whenever I want, and though I’ve seen it dozens of times, it still never fails to give me goosebumps and make me well up. Plus, his smile is one that melts my heart. Seriously.

Andrew Johnston
Andrew is also a contestant in Britain’s Got Talent Season 2. I saw his audition being featured on TV, and immediately looked him up in YouTube. He, like Paul, is absolutely amazing. Goosebumps and tears, yes, this video gives me those too. The difference between these 2 videos though, is that here, you won’t see the apprehension that the judges had when Paul said he was there to sing opera. Ah well, they both definitely surprised the judges and the audience.

Best battle speeches

Mo started off with a debate or poll on the topic of which movie had the best or most inspiring battle speeches. He narrowed the choices to:

Gladiator
300
Lord of the Rings
Braveheart

Grace liked 300, Mojo liked Gladiator while my man Mo picked Braveheart. I thought for sure that Mojo would go for 300 just for the sheer number of ridiculously toned abs in that movie... :) I'd have to concur with Mo though that Mel Gibson's role as William Wallace is outstanding and his battle speech makes one want to pick up a sword and charge into battle. There's something quite visceral and intensely personal about sword and shield battles which simply cannot be matched with today's modern shoot-em-ups...

Rich girls dating poor guys

Another interesting topic thrown around by Mo is his theory that rich girls don't date poor guys. He believes that the reverse is quite common, meaning, poor girls, particularly good looking ones, do date rich guys...Poor Grace served as the butt of Mo's jokes this time around, with him implying that she was a high maintenance girlfriend... Grace's boyfriend is a businessman (read - rich)... :)

Several listeners called in to disprove Mo's theory, including a hot sounding girl, SAM, who claimed to be well off and had dated a couple of poor guys. She cited several problems which led to her breakups with the poor guys, including socializing problems, meaning the guys felt out of place in the girl's circle of elitista friends... Another cause of dissent were the guys' insecurity about money matters. I think realistically speaking these are issues which may crop up in a relationship of that sort...

Funny thing though was that the girl, SAM, was very aloof and seemed indifferent to Mo's questioning which really drove the Professor nuts... I mean, I was counting the seconds till he'd hang up on the girl and tell her off but for some reason he couldn't do that... The girl was too interesting and she seemed totally honest about her experiences... Our Professor Mo being bested by a girl? No way in hell, but that's what happened, hehe.. Kudos to SAM!

Voiceover king dies

You've heard his voice in hundreds of movie trailers but you probably never even knew who that "voice" was... His name is Don LaFontaine and his famous opening line "In a world where..." opened countless movie trailers from the hottest movies to piss poor flops. You can read the story here.

I got a good chuckle when Mohan Gumatay nominated "NONOY the MENGGOY" as a replacement for Don LaFontaine... Imagine the upcoming "Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince" movie trailer being intro'd by NONOY... Sheeshh... Good times!

Paul Potts interview

The show's highlight would probably be Paul Potts' interview done by Grace Lee and Mojo Jojo. The guy is amazingly talented and his story is truly inspirational. Let's be honest, Paul Potts is not much to look at but once he sings, you'll forget all about his looks. Now, I'm not the biggest opera fan, but watching and listening to Paul Potts singing transcends musical preferences and boundaries. As Simon Cowell said, he loves shows where an ordinary guy blessed with extraordinary talent does good...

I've posted a video of Paul's audition above on the British reality show, Britain's Got Talent and I'll let you be the judge... Paul will be performing here in Manila at the PICC Plenary Hall, October 8, at 8 in the evening...

Frau Konopke hat in ihrem Wurscht-Imbiss an der Eberswalderstrasse erst drei Gäste bedient, als die Medien berichteten, dass ein anderer den Hals schon voll hat: George Bush. Wirbelsturm „Gustav“ hat einfach über seinen Kopf entschieden, abzuschwächen und in New Orleans doch nicht so viel Wind zu machen. Dabei hat sich der Schorsch schon so darauf gefreut, in seiner Lieblingsstadt Hände zu schütteln, Stullen zu verteilen, in die Kameras zu lächeln und wieder gut zu machen, was er bei Katrina versäumt hat. Inzwischen wohnen in New Orleans auch viel mehr Leute, die ein bisschen so wie er sind, die gleichen Gedanken haben, den gleichen Patriotismus und denen man auch mal abends in der Gasse begegnen kann, ohne zu erschrecken, weil man sie nämlich gleich sieht, im Finstern. Zahlreiche Spezialtrupps aus dem ganzen Land waren bereits auf dem Weg in die Stadt, um Schäden zu beheben, die nicht gemacht wurden. Hätte „Gustav“, George aber auch vorher spüren lassen können!

In Deutschland wurde ebenfalls ein Unglück knapp vereitelt. Kanzlerin Merkel hat- während ihrer Bildungsreise- am Chemieunterricht von Neunklässlern an einem Gymnasium in Ilmenau teilgenommen und mitten bei der Vorführung einer Redoxreaktion zwei Röhrchen fallen lassen. Alle sind sofort in die Hocke gegangen, aber das Chaos blieb- Jonas und Herr Dubrau sei Dank!- aus. „Was die Schüler so können, ist beeindruckend“, hat die Angela gesagt und die Röhrchen mit dem Flüssigstickstoff wieder ordentlich auf den Tisch des naturwissenschaftlichen Instituts gestellt. Schüler eines anderen Lehrstuhls, und zwar des Max-Planck Instituts in Hamburg, wären an diesem Tag überhaupt nicht d’accord mit einem Besuch Angies gewesen, denn sie hatten selbst alle Hände voll zu tun. Es wurde gerechnet, gerechnet und gerechnet und am Ende fast ein bisschen knapp zur Mittagspause. Dennoch hat man es bis dahin geschafft, neue Berechnungen zum Klimawandel vorzulegen. In Deutschland wird es in den nächsten Jahren immer wärmer! Weil man das bis heute überhaupt noch nicht wusste, ist man richtig froh, so junge engagierte Wissenschaftler im Land zu haben, die obendrein auch herausgefunden haben, dass durch die wärmeren Temperaturen das Waldbrandrisiko erheblich wahnsinnig, besorgniserregend, defintiv, unaufhaltsam steigt und man im Wald nicht kokeln soll und so. Die Forscher fanden zudem heraus, dass es im Herbst bald öfter regnet und das es da auch mal passieren kann, das es Hochwasser gibt. Am wichtigsten, was man herausfand ist, dass durch das vermehrte Gepiesel vom Himmel das Korn auf den Feldern schneller und üppiger wächst und deshalb mit erhöhten Ernteerträgen in der Landwirtschaft zu rechnen ist. Wie sich die zu erwartende gute Ernte auf die Mindestarbeitszeit der Bauern auswirkt, wurde noch nicht berechnet, denn es gab Schweinebraten mit Kartoffelpüree und jeder junge Forscher der in der Mensa speist weiß, dass man bei Gerichten wie diesen, pünktlich zur Essenausgabe erscheinen sollte.

Um beim Rechnen zu bleiben: Die Mitarbeiter bei der Bahn wissen genau wies geht und haben deshalb ein paar Beamte bestochen, die für die Kontrolle von Tarifen zuständig sind, Verzeihung: waren. Nach Angaben der Anklage sollen ein Oberamtsrat sowie ein Regierungsdirektor jahrelang eine Bahncard erhalten haben, mit der sie unbegrenzt kostenlos in der Ersten Klasse fahren konnten. Diese Bahncard habe zuletzt einen Wert von 6000 Öro gehabt. Ein Gesandter der Anklage erklärte, die beiden Beschuldigten hätten die Freifahrten für private Zwecke genutzt. Ja, wofür denn sonst? Das alles interessiert aber nicht mehr bis zum Abend, an dem Torhüter Oli „kahn, sah und siegte“.

Mit tiefen Emotionen, Applaus, etlichen Tränen und einem freiwilligen Blick in Paul Potts Komplett-Guschen-Sanierung, war es für Oli Kahn, Time to say good bye. Er bestritt im Trikot von Bayern München sein letztes Spiel, feierte beim 1:1 gegen die Nationalmannschaft einen würdigen Abschluss seiner Laufbahn und kann sich endlich zurücklehnen und zuschauen, wie die Millionen auf seinem Konto Polonese tanzen. Vielleicht wird er davon so depressiv, dass er in zehn Jahren aufs Spielfeld zurückkehrt. Die Sonne wurde am 2. September das letzte Mal gesehen, als sie sich in einer Fan-Träne spiegelte.

direkt am ehemaligen Schutzstreifen fährt nun die STRASSENBAHN wieder auf ihrem alten Weg vom Nordbahnhof bis hoch zur Warschauer. ...eine Fahrt die bestimmt auch Pukkini ;-) gefallen hätte aber so muss er auf ewig hoffen ,daß die Plattenverkäufe mal für eine kleine Spritztour reichen werden.

It features a subtitled "translation" of the now-famous Paul Potts (Opera Singing sensation from Britain) singing in the competition that introduced him to the world. Potts goes on to "explains" to us in incredible vocal style who Wright is to him, and how he didn't know he held the feeling he did about America... Enjoy!

Der Waliser Tenor → Paul Potts, derzeit mit der CD "One Chance" ganz oben in den Pop-Charts, kommt im Spätherbst nach Nürnberg. Der überraschende Erfolg des leidenschaftlichen Sängers, befördert durch die Telekom-Werbekampagne, wird für eine Deutschland-Tournee ausgenutzt, die am 8.11. mit einem Konzert in der →Nürnberger Arena ausklingen wird.

Da von seinem Album in Deutschland bereits mehr als 200.000 Exemplare verkauft wurden (damit hat sich Potts die → Platin-Auszeichnung verdient), ist für die →Konzertkarten mit hoher Nachfrage zu rechnen, besonders von Seiten derjenigen, die durch → "Nessun dorma" erst ihr Interesse für klassische Musik entdeckt haben.

O post anterior me fez lembrar do vídeo abaixo, um vídeo antigo que é um dos meus preferidos do Youtube. Provavelmente me lembrei dele por causa da oposição boa aparência x talento, também abordada na história das chinesinhas.

Este é Paul Potts. Ele participou de um desses reality shows para selecionar cantores, nos moldes de alguns exibidos aqui: o cara se apresenta para uma platéia com um juri técnico de três ou quatro integrantes, canta uma música, e no final os jurados votam se ele deve continuar no programa ou não.

Paul é vesgo, obeso, tem dentes tortos e é inexpressivo. Os jurados o desacreditam visivelmente. Quando diz que vai cantar ópera, um deles nem tenta disfarçar a expressão de desdém.

Porém, quando ele abre a boca...
