But, he added, "you gotta start with the songs, and you guys can be our test audience."

The new material went down a storm, but the biggest ovation came when Anastasio and Gordon finished the set with Phish's "Chalkdust Torture."

Anastasio, who plays on Gordon's upcoming album, "The Green Arrow," (due Aug. 5), then returned the favor during the bassist's set with his own band on the neighboring Sherwood Court stage. Though his guest appearance was delayed a bit when all concerned realized there wasn't an extra guitar for him to use, Anastasio eventually made it back for a rendition of "Cruel World," written and sung by Gordon's guitarist Scott Murawski, followed by the Phish favorite "Meat."

The real treat closed Gordon's set, however, when Phish drummer Jon Fishman joined the ensemble for the Beatles' "She Said, She Said," sending the field into a state of dancing delirium.

All four Phish members, including keyboardist Page McConnell, have hinted at the possibility of a reunion in recent comments, but no firm details have been revealed. The Phish follies were the unquestioned highlight on Rothbury's closing day, as the inaugural festival came to a satisfying close at the Double JJ Ranch.

My opinion:

I've read about this story even before I learned about the movie earlier this year. I was moved by it, needless to say. It's a tragic story about how a girl had the misfortune of staying with a family and a woman incapable of taking care of them, much less her own children. It mirrors the situation amongst the poor in many countries around the world.

This movie though, short as I believe it is (there were a lot of tortures that were inflicted on Sylvia), kept to the story at least. Although it showed only some of the tortures (thank goodness, majority of it were already so brutal), it was still able to deliver the message. Ellen Page's portrayal of Sylvia is truly remarkable, and you'd really feel the pain and suffering emanating from her.  It's worth seeing Ellen Page on this, and I don't think it would've turned out the way it did if someone else did it.

All in all.. a highly recommended movie. Worth watching.

 It's not the first time I've doubted myself as an artist.  I've often wondered how creative I actually am.  I've felt like a fake and a phony, like writing anything besides fiction made me unworthy of calling myself a writer.  How creative do you actually have to be to write life?  That's what journalists do and they're not necessarily classified as "creative writers," nor are grant writers, pamphlet writers, flyer writers, instruction manual writers, and a whole slew of other writers who write facts.  Then I thought that maybe the difference was that creative nonfiction writers use metaphor and poetic words, and many of the same elements as fiction writers.  I write the facts but make them pretty.

 But that still didn't feel artistic enough to me.  To create something is to make something that wasn't there previously.  That's what fiction writers do.  They spin lives out of thin air.  They name people and imagine their favorite ice cream flavors and who they chased around on the playground when they were kids.  They dress them and give them hair and eyes, a dislike of chocolate and a love of canned sardines.  It was the complete opposite, it seemed to me, of what I did.  I take a life that already exists and put it on the page.  Where's the imagination there?  What is it that I'm creating?

 But then I started thinking about visual art.  A painter who paints a landscape the way it actually looks is no less creative than Van Gogh painting "Starry Starry Night," or Picasso painting any number of his cubist works. The sculptures of Michelangelo are no less creative than those of modern artists.  In fact, sometimes those things are harder to create.  It's not easy to pin life down and make it stand still and be able to do it justice. 

 In creative nonfiction writing, everything is already there, yes, but it's up to the writer to decide what to do with it.  How should it be spaced?  What should be left out?  What should be emphasized?  Emphasizing one detail even slightly differently can sometimes cause an entirely other truth to be illuminated from the same events.  It is indeed a creative craft.  The writer has to play up certain details in order to make them glisten on the page the way they do in real life.  You have to poke and prod the words, nudging them in, smoothing them and rounding the corners, putting indents here and creating bulges there.  It's not easy.  It's not uncreative.  I am a writer.

Actually, I did a few things here. Don't look so confused! I used a line break <br /> or <br>, which is the same effect as pressing enter on the keyboard. The reason I use <br /> is because its a single tag, and their close tag may have a slash in front of it. The reason I use that is because in more advanced languages, like XHTML, you need all lowercase (<b> is good, <B> is bad) and you need to close single tags.
Okay, back to HTML. The <p> and </p> tags mean --- you guessed it --- paragraphs! Each time you use a new paragraph, it automatically <br />'s itself and it creates a new one. Continue to do so for another paragraph. Finally, we'll work on an image. Make sure to save Cats.htm again.

Images get a little confusing. Its a single tag that requires no closing, so in this case it doesn't need a   />  . In order to create an image, use the image tag:

This creates an image. You place the image URL between the quotes. Let's use Lulu's image, http://z.about.com/d/drawsketch/1/0/_/I/lulu_cat.jpg.

That displays the image. However, what if the browser doesn't support the image and it doesn't show up? No matter!

<alt> defines alternate text in case the browser doesn't support the image. So if the image doesn't pop up, the word 'Lulu' will take its place. Alternates may not be images. By the way, you need to put the URL and name in quotes because the things inside the quotes are called attributes. You'll need to know that for future lessons.

Save Cats.htm again and view it in a browser. Success!

Another summer day has gone and the daily routine will continue till July the 14th when I'll leave for a week, away from everything and everyone! I really hope that this "small" holiday will help me before the one I'll have later, when I'll have to work too ;-) Will be a full summer, this already was a full summer... :-)
