Happiness in the workplace, at home or in relationships is often the result of Communication Techniques. The best communicators know themselves, recognize the demands of the situation and adapt strategies to meet those needs. When employees communicate well, they are “in sync” and teamwork occurs with less stress. People negotiate better, speak more convincingly and listen effectively, with an atmosphere of trust, cooperation and mutual respect. A Communication Style Analysis helps you understand your style and the style of others, bringing harmony to your workplace.

There’s a difference between giving in and giving up. Knowing when to do each is something t

There's a difference between giving in and giving up. Knowing when to do each is something that only life lessons can truly teach you. This year has been full of those such experiences.

My love affair with this city... it's the story of true unconditional love.

It's been a long but epic week. I'm waiting on a callback about a position I'd applied for. I'll know later today. I wouldn't be starting until Monday if I got it.

I didn't make it down for the blogger meeting. I was sidetracked with an opportunity.

A friend of mine twittered about needing some help with casting for his webshow- Frenchmaidtv. Now if you haven't seen this quirky and sexy little series, I really must insist that you go there and watch. When I first found it, I understood immediately why it was such a hit.

I came to California originally for the same things it seems everyone here comes for. Ah yes, I came out here for the entertainment industry- the mecca of of smoke and mirrors manufacturing. Sidetracked from that a few years... life has a weird way of bringing you back to your roots.

Two birds, one stone. I had the chance to help someone deserving and learn some lessons in the process.

Life is a series of windows. Not doors, windows. Because I believe sometimes it takes more effort than just walking in a door. Sometimes you stumble across an open window, take a glance, and have to find some way to climb though. Holy crap I sound like I break and enter now. ***I am not responsible for any breaking and entering cases caused by this blog***

I'm a rebel but not a jerk.

That said, when you are fortunate enough to stand on a platform and take a look into a new world (being this short, I need a stepstool to see in those high ones), you take it without hesitation.

My view of Hollywood had been tarnished. That day, it revitalized the zest I had all those years ago. I am forever thankful to Tim for letting me tag along. It was something I will never forget.

One love postponed to rediscover an old one.

Hollywood, the honest view from this inside outsider:

It is exactly as it looks from the outside. It's shallow. It's gritty. It bids emotion exist and remain non existent. Broken dreams. Made dreams. Hardened hearts for a reason. Tits or GTFO.

The 405 was a parking lot. I left later than expected. Not surprised, but there was no way I was going to make it home. There's fashionably late and then there's just damn late.

Another friend of mine called me:

How adventurous are you feeling tonight?

Pornstars. Kareokee. Only in LA. It was the perfect ending to a day chuck full of breasts, plastic, and hollywood. It's amazing how real something that screams fake can be. Puns intended.

Like I said, they manufacture these moments in Hollywood though. It's like a drug. One hit- and you're hooked.

I haven't been able to sleep much. I'm a workaholic. I have too many projects to work on. Not enough time. I'm pushing 36 hours in a 24 hour day.

There's a difference between giving in and giving up. Knowing when to do each is something that only life lessons can truly teach you. This year has been full of those such experiences.

Those sentences echo in my mind. I am making peace within myself. Time to make the outside match the inside.

I wrote a message to try and push a restart button. I wanted no harm, no foul. Once upon a time, I'd like to believe we were friends. Perhaps we never were. Perhaps it was all just about the heat. So why was there so much passion?

"Behave yourself"

I didn't need to hear that. Have I screwed up in the past? Yes indeed. I am human and admit that part of the reason it failed was because of me.

I rolled my eyes a bit at the statement and lol'ed.

Heading down to San Diego... another swimsuit. Gassed up in my bikini. Iced chai with whipped cream and cinnamon on top. Late leaving... but fashionably on time.

I changed on the drive down. Driving with just your breasts at 90mph is probably not something I'd reccomend doing. Scratch that. Hell it's worth doing once. ***I am not responsible for the accidents occured by this blog***

The thing about being home is that even when things happen, they seem to have little to no effect on me. I didn't cause any ruckus despite what happened. And as much as I'm sure he'd love for me to be "that bitch" and air all the laundry, I'm more mature than that. And frankly, I only partially care.

If you love something and you let it go and it comes back, it was yours. If not, then it never was.

You can tell your friends that I was a never was. You can spout assorted gossip about me. Get nasty. Do whatever. It's your life. I don't tell anyone how to run theirs.

The truth lies in that vast space of stars and time.

I'm not innocent. I'm not better. I'm just not pandering anymore to the manipulative bullshit.

I wish you all the best of luck in all that you do. I know that you have the power to be successful. I have faith in you despite it all.

I love you for the lessons you taught me. About life. About business. About how a relationship should and shouldn't be. I always will.

Goodbye my "friend," my "lover," my Mr.-Never-Once-was Mr-Likely-Will... blank blank dot dot dot.

Now, it should be mentioned straightaway that I am no small person. Grew up the fat kid before blossoming into the evenly balanced, stocky, part chub, part muscle (a little more the earlier than the latter lately) mountain of masculinity that I am today. In any case, at close to 270lbs. clothes shopping in general is rather difficult. So imagine my plight when my first post- grad school interview finally came up and I was in need of a new suit.

The correct course of action would have been to buy a quality suit, go to a tailor, and end up looking rather professional. The path I chose, however, led me directly to the Sears Sales rack--bad idea #1.

Naturally, as I've written before, the only suit that fit properly, and therefore the one I bought, was a Haggar special. Superficially it seems very middle of the road. Not exactly what you'd see on Wall Street, but not quite hobo material. Just a suit, that's about all that can be said. Perhaps the only glaring irregularities would be the orange, plastic lining in the pants--there for that standard Haggar toughness--and the false (very false) wrinkle-proof advertising tags that originally littered the suit.

When purchasing a new suit, it's not a bad idea to pick up a matching shirt and tie that really brings the whole ensamble together. Somehow, perhaps due to my disgust with the way I looked all ready, the salesman talked me into a fire-engine red shirt with matching tie. Now, remembering that I'm kind of a big guy, I walked out finally concluding that I would be the subject of countless Kool-Aid Man and stop sign jokes. But on the upside, two of the more important necessities were taken care of: new suit--check, shirt and tie--check, ready to dazzle at the interview--ehh.

After getting my new duds home, and after stewing the entire car ride about how terrible I would look in a red outfit, I decided that it would be best to wear a plain white shirt and blue tie. Too many bright colors on a first interview may seem too bold, too 'I'll be the brightest peacock this office has ever seen.' New problem however, all of my white shirts were purchased when I was still in high school. Just to close the neck on the only one with sleeves that fit, I had to move the button to the very edge of the collar--still rather snug.

My interview was the following morning. I got up, cleaned up, and squeezed into my new, professional little outfit. All buttoned, zipped, and tied, I gave myself a look in the mirror. My neck and head were way too fat for the collar--not only was the newly moved button clinging to the opposing hole like a scared cat to a curtain, but my chubby head pushed down on top of the collar turning it into tubes resembling crashing waves with my jowels as their crest. Needless to say, the portions of my tie that should have gone unseen were quite visible.

Moreover, somehow during the night my man bosoms swelled to twice their normal size making all of my subsequent breast buttons closely resemble their pursed and gradually popping, necky brother. Then the final nail--my dress shoes, which had gone unused for a very long time, were now too wide for my feet. The whole look was rather shocking; I was only a bowler hat away from playing an Oddjob or Random Task look alike. Now that I was spilling, bursting, and literally stepping out of every possible crevice, I decided that this was all a bad idea. But I was in, I was ready (sorta), and out the door on my way into Philly for my first grown-up, professional interview...

So, I heard from the film people today. The shoot is still on, and it's even on schedule. I let them know of my new conflicts, and they're going to work around them, which is good. I don't know how smart it is to try to shoot a film the same weekend as I work a trade show, but I'm going to try. Things are always feast or famine around here.

Yesterday I came to the realization that I have two days off during the holiday weekend, and decided to get out of the city for them. The beach would have been nice, but I decided instead to visit friends and so am trading one city for another, and going to New York. No auditions, it's doubtful I'll see a show; my only plan right now is to go with a friend to Ellis Island and otherwise just have fun. I'm looking forward to getting away, however briefly. I still may try to make a beach trip work before the fall weather hits.

Rehearsals are going well, but I am feeling some pressure. It's a very quick rehearsal process. I'm used to taking longer to figure things out, and there's no room for that here. I'll be spending my bus trips cramming lines, I think.

Today is the day I set aside for catching up on things: laundry, correspondence, bills, etc. So I better get to it. Cheers, ya'll.

Personagem 1:
- Eu quero... eu quero... (pausa, reunindo forças) Eu quero entrar!!!!

Personagem 2:
- Fala, fala para todo mundo ouvir!

Personagem 1, gritando:
- Eu quero, eu quero entrar!

Recomendo. (a versão do link acima é direto a ponto)

Thanks to Vihing Lee for this one:

I'm sure you're all really happy working in the sector but would anyone like to work for Google?

The link below goes to a swiss site which shows photos taken on a visit to the Google offices in Zurich.
The commentary is in French so there's a sort of translation below:

Google Zurich

We already knew that working for Google had certain advantages, but, believe me, this giant of the search motor takes the welfare of its employees seriously . as shown by this decompression (stress) capsule that is impermeable to sound and light ...

Moving around: A slide allows quick access from different floors ... There are also poles available ... they are similar to the ones used in fire stations.

Food: Employees can eat all they want from a vast choice of food and drink.

Work Stations: Each employee has at least two large screens. There are 4-6 'Zooglers' per office.

INNOVATION: Large boards are available just about everywhere because 'ideas don't always come when seated in the office' says one of Googles managers.

LEISURE. Pool tables, video games etc. are available in many areas.

Communication... On each floor, there are private cabin areas where employees can attend to personal affairs.

Technical Support: Problem with your computer ? No problem ... Bring it to this area where drinks are available while it is being fixed ...

Health: Professional masseurs (eusses) available.

REST ... This room provides massage chairs that you control ... while you view relaxing aquariums ...

Ambiance ... There are many books in this library ... even some about programming !!

My questions are ... when do they work? How much do they pay to work there? And where do I send my application?

I haven't posted much of substance lately, so I thought I would give you all an update on some ongoing and developing news in the Martin home.

Job situation is meh. I met with a church last week for an open position, but didn't really feel that great about my interview. This is only the second or third interview I have done in my life where I was unemployed at the time. I think that drastically affected my confidence level and my articulation of some of my answers and comments. I was also very honest where I stood theologically on a few things and that may have hurt my chances. No major issues and no essentials, but people sometimes get nervous when you tell them up front that you don't agree with something they believe. We will see how it all turns out.

Cars are doing great. I drove "the captain" on his first long trip up to the Ham yesterday and all went well. The parental units were very surprised at the cleanliness and condition of a car with almost 60k miles of service under its belt.

Speaking of the trip to Birmingham, my papa's wife never ceases to amaze me. She went in for surgery to remove cancer from her throat and tongue yesterday at St. Vincent's Hospital. This is the second form of cancer she has had in the last year and a half. She just finished up 38 rounds of chemotherapy this past Spring for breast cancer, and now this. Sheshhh! She found out about two weeks ago that it was spreading towards her wind pipe and that if she did not have the surgery she would die a horribly painful death, but if she did have it, there was a moderate to high chance that she would not make it through the surgery. I heard from my mom about 6:30 last night and she was doing well. Of course, after major surgery the first 72 hours are critical, so please be praying for her and my grandfather. He was a nervous wreck yesterday. If Dora does not pull through, this will be the third wife he has lost to cancer. You read that correctly, THIRD wife. My grandmother died of lung cancer and his second wife died of brain cancer. I can't even imagine.

Went and hung out with the Haughery family last night and Brother-man jumped in the pool. Keep in mind we were not swimming at the time. Brit dove in after him, and was soaked the rest of the night. All in all a really good time hanging out with Slickums and the fam.

I think Obama is starting to break down Brittany's preconceived notions about him. And no, she is not racist or anti-liberal, she just hates politics in general. By proxy, she doesn't really care too much about politicians, but I can see her slowly coming around. After listening to "the speech" last night, I don't know how you can't be excited about what he would bring to the country. I just hope Americans are smart enough to say "ENOUGH!"

I have a chores list a mile long and I am having trouble getting motivated.

Congrats to the Lucas clan for signing the contract on their new (hopefully) abode.

Well, on to my honey do (or I will maim you) list. Peace.

Dimana Saya Harus Posting Kalau Saya Butuh Orang IT Orang Ruby?
Banyak sekali yang mepertanyakan pe

Dimana Saya Harus Posting Kalau Saya Butuh Orang IT Orang Ruby?

Monyet Gendut: "Ah perasaan masih sering deh"

Monyet Sedeng: "Kan kalo dulu biasa forward job dari Kanada, Jerman, terus mana lagi tuh rame rame kalau job dari Luar Negeri gitu. Sekarang apa lagi sepi ya? Masih rame nggak sih?"

Monyet Gendut: "Oh masih dong. Asalkan sama-sama di frekuensi yang sama"

Nah sekian percakapan antar lempar melempar jobs ruby antar kedua monyet brengsek.

OK, sekian dulu OOT. Sekarang baru posting serius lagi kacau, keur lieur euy

	Dear Arie,

First, thank you for managing your group on LinkedIn. We sincerely appreciate the time and effort you devote to your members, and we know they value it. Together you have made Groups one of the top features on LinkedIn.

This Friday, we will be adding several much-requested features to your group:

	    * Discussion forums: Simple discussion spaces for you and your members. (You can turn discussions off in your management control panel if you like.)

	    * Enhanced roster: Searchable list of group members.

	    * Digest emails: Daily or weekly digests of new discussion topics which your members may choose to receive. (We will be turning digests on for all current group members soon, and prompting them to set to their own preference.)

	    * Group home page: A private space for your members on LinkedIn.

We're confident that these new features will spur communication, promote collaboration, and make your group more valuable to you and your members. We hope you can come by LinkedIn on Friday morning to check out the new functionality and get a group discussion going by posting a welcome message.

	Sincerely,
The LinkedIn Groups Team

Saya jawab ajah, "Ah bukannya kita bukan komunitas eksklusif? Sudah ngomong kalau pakai Bahasa Indonesia saja orang luar negeri nggak ngerti boro-boro pas jadi bikin situs khusus pake bahasa Indonesia tambah eksklusif" (g_lol)

Kalo saya masih belum mau bersuara walau ada banyak alunan melodi klasik mendekat pingin rekomendasi saya, biar nangis darah kalau bukan standar saya, tetap aja saya belum bersuara, alias ya lewat jalur umum wae atuh, toh masih untung juga disharing kan...

OK deh, sekian dulu, saya pikir karena ini bukan topik personal jadi saya taroh di blog utama saya ini, padahal kalo introspeksi keknya kebanyakan ngigo narsisnya juga deh postingan ini ah sudah ah.. tatah! berlalu sambil pasang senyum sok imut-imut padahal diledekin OB gw sekarang uda amit-amit

"TUNGGUU!!! JANGAN PERGI!!!!", ada seorang anak memohon pada saya untuk jangan ngacir dulu. Saya menoleh sebentar, dan dia bertanya lebih lanjut:

"Kalau caranya mendapatkan pekerjaan teh gimana? Aduh bingung? Saya kan belum pernah punya pengalaman sama kerjaan yang ada hubungannya sama Ruby, tapi sekarang sudah sedang stress-stressnya pakai titik titik. Ihik. ihik. Pingin banget bisa hidup dengan Ruby aja. Jangan yang titik titik ini :("

Saya jawab, yah gampang, orang sekarang tu lihat social proof. Artinya kalau belum ada, ya diadakan!

Caranya?

Ya udah ya, segitu dulu, saya mo balik bertapa baca-baca buku lagi sambil tapal-tapal api -_-

In honor of Labor Day weekend, I want to know about the most hateful and soul-sucking (or just bad) job you've ever held. I'll kick things off.

[caption id="attachment_1092" align="alignleft" width="251" caption="Gayle's in Monterey Bay, CA"][/caption]

In high school, I took a job working at a local bakery. This job sucked on many levels, primarily because I had to be there on Saturday at 5:00am and 6:00am on Sunday. Additionally, placing me in close proximity of cheesecake and cannoli filling is highly inadvisable.

I recall 'accidentally' bending mini-cheesecakes until they cracked so we'd have to cut them up as samples. I would then cram the samples into my maw whenever customers weren't looking. Classy, right? Another favorite activity was squeezing cannoli filling into a Styrofoam coffee cup and eating it with a spoon. (I sense your distaste for me skyrocketing.)

Hulling strawberries was another hellish aspect of this job and every Friday night my fingers would be stained red with strawberry juice and blood from inadvertent paring knife wounds.

I lasted two years at the bakery--shocking really, considering I must have caused a catastophic profit loss with my 'snacking' habits.

Okay, your turn. All of you who aren't away for this lovely holiday weekend, spill your dark and dirty secrets about your worst job.

(foto: things to do door elusive)

I do a lot of thinking when I’m walking; unfortunately, most of it turns out to be daydreaming

I do a lot of thinking when I'm walking; unfortunately, most of it turns out to be daydreaming (re: ineffective thought), but sometimes even daydreams have a purpose. I was thinking of how it would be really awesome to be an interviewer, and get to ask all sorts of people really interesting and relevant questions; hopefully ones that they hadn't been asked over and over again before.

This daydream has in turn spawned this topic today of Ideal Jobs/Careers. These may or may not have any basis in reality, but it's better to try then pine over lost opportunities, I suppose.

I thought it best to preface my ideal jobs with occupations I have already had, a review if you will. I'm going to list them chronologically for my own convenience, and I'll give you a brief description of each one.

1. Fresh out of high school we have Beekeeping. I didn't actually get to do much beekeeping-for the most part I scraped ten year old beeswax off of three large warehouse floors. Everyday I would go home reeking of old, old honey/wax and sweat, mmmmm. This ended when I got stung in the carotid artery by a bee (I like bees, but ouch), and then rode my bike home. I had an anaphylactic reaction; my Step Mother rushed me to the emergency room. There endeth that job. Funny thing is, I wasn't allergic before getting stung in the neck.

2. Baker's Assistant/Bakery Clerk. I got this one pretty much right after the loss of the beekeeping gig. I worked one graveyard shift baking, and then would normally start the other days at 4am in the morning slicing bread and packaging buns. I didn't mind it. I like to bake at home, but you kind of lose your day when you start that early, you go to sleep rather early too.

3. I moved to jolly old England for a year, and I worked as a Waitress/Commis Pastry Chef at one of the five star restaurants in London. I was incredibly stressed, and incredibly entertained at the same time. I think the two things I miss the most about London, okay three things, are my best friend Jake, Selfridges, and "Four Later" the evening programming on channel 4 (they used to play horrible movies like "Surf Nazis Must Die" and "Revenge of the Redneck Zombies" it was awesome).

4. I moved back to Victoria and got my old job at the previous bakery back; in addition to that I also worked at a grocery store bakery. Paying for my education, ah yeah.

5. After a brief hiatus due to illness (good excuse to never work in a bakery again, the bakery didn't make me sick, but I was sick of the bakery), I worked as a Salon Receptionist for a whole three months that I will never get back of my life. Loved most of the people, hated the dull repetitive work. Added bonus of Aveda trying to brainwash me, for the longest time I'd have to catch myself when answering the phone so I didn't spout "It's a GREAT day at Aveda!"

6. I had a lot of fun at my next job, as a Bookseller in an independent bookstore. It was pretty awesome, especially when Nicole, the other young girl working there, and I got to make all the decorations for the 5th Harry Potter book coming out. We had everything-giant Venus flytraps, the Chamber of Secrets, Aragog-I paper mache-d things for weeks! I love paper mache. Anyways the bookstore was a pretty good job, it just didn't pay much, and the hour commute both ways (two hours everyday) was a bitch.

7. I got a job much closer to my downtown apartment, working as a Beauty Advisor for Lancôme at a department store. I'm a makeup artist, so it was quite fun in that aspect, but I couldn't deal with the kind of pushy, credit card selling retail they wanted from me. I didn't know what to do when I quit, but one of my co-workers Ray from Biotherm suggested:

8. My most recent job as a Locations Production Assistant in film and television. It was good, and yet it was bad. The hours were long for my body (I've had cancer, and I'm prone to bronchitis; I don't like to push my luck); some of the people (i.e. people of the same Guild) who were supposed to know better than to treat you like crap still did; and I just fell out of love with it after two years. I did enjoy aspects of it, I won't deny that, but they are outvoted by the bad bits. It's too bad; it really was one of the most interesting/strange jobs I've ever had.

So now that I've acquainted you with my past career opportunities (and I use the word career quite loosely there), I will now relate the opportunities that I'm striving to create for myself. Too exciting, I bet your not even reading anymore. Meh, a fie on thee.

Listed in no particular order:

1. Grossly Rich Vagabond/Philanthropist (Sweet deal!)

2. Reporter/Interviewer (I love to talk, if you haven't already noticed by the length of my blog entries. I like to listen too, but I don't get much of a chance on the internet)

3. Movie or Music Reviewer/Journalist (Good times, all around! You get paid to watch movies/go to shows/listen to new music)

4. Writer (probably fiction, I don't know, I'm not sure on this one really)

5. Professional Bellydancer (What can I say, I loves me some dancing)

6. Comic Book Writer/Artist (I've actually already made a foray into this but it needs more work, practice, practice, practice)

The only one I can't really see happening right away is "Rich Vagabond", because that would require winning the lotto, or some such luck. Everything else on the list I actually have some skill for, and just requires a lot of practice, determination, hard work, and potentially me going back to school to finish my degree: albeit in another subject than the one I started it all out with (I aspired to be Mister Sinister at one point, at least the female version, hence the Biochemistry Undergrad).

Well, there you have it, my totally lame list of where I've been, and where I hope to go. I've left off some honourable mentions like "Private Detective" and so on, but they're more of a passing fancy, a "Hey, you know what would be cool?..." than any actual sort of goal. I will leave you there, to ponder things like exactly how bees are kept, and why a grossly rich person would choose to be a vagabond. Oh, the career choices abound...

In my line of work, I pretty much have to deal with tired, anxious, cranky, complainers! But I still love my job. I work as a night auditor for a Marriott brand hotel with three floors and 61 rooms, so its kinda small.

For the ones that don't know what a night auditor job consists of... according to this Marriott anyways... a night auditor is all three shifts rolled into one. I take care of late, late check ins, do housekeepings job if needed, do the nightly audit (which is just all the paper work of how much the hotel made in credit card sales, cash, how many rooms were sold, etc.), backing up the systems, making breakfast, and checking guests out if needed. All that from 11pm to 7am.

Now picture doing all of that while taking care of all the nightly complaints of rooms smelling bad, temperatures not right, not having enough rooms to switch people to or having to downgrade someone from a room with a king bed and a jacuzzi to a room that has two standard double queen beds just because something was wrong with the room and then getting written up the next day because that person complained... If your going to complain about the room, then leave if the problem can't be resolved. We don't post to your credit cards until the next morning. Take your money somewhere else! Just don't be surprised if the other hotel isn't as nice.

Where ever I go I have to carry the phone with me cause I'm the only one on the shift. So at 3am I have people calling, while I'm backing up the system which cannot be interrupted or all the info won't be backed up, wanting a reservation for like two weeks in advance. I just sit there thinking "Why the hell would you call up a hotel at 3am to make a reservation so far in advance, especailly when you could have gone to the website?" Like thats the only time they have to do it... And then those are usually the guests that cancel. Its retarded!

Another cool thing about my job is that I have to process what is called "GNS" or Guarenteed No Shows. If you make a reservation and know that you can't make it, call and cancel it, you won't be penalised for it! Cause if you don't call and cancel, guess what, you STILL have to pay for that room! If you see that you still payed for the room on your bank statement, don't get mad at the hotel cause of it. Its not our responsibility to call you up and remind you, you either get an email or you better have a good memory.

One thing I like to see when I come in are new comments on the wall. We put up good and bad comments on a board so we can see how well were doing. The great thing is when I see a bad comment, the person that wrote it can't spell and has bad handwriting. If your going to leave a bad comment on how we should do our job, then at least be sophisticated to do so or else it just makes you look like a bad guest. The good comments on the other hand are really appreciated. What I consider a good comment is either no problems or one that has suggestions. With suggestions, people tell us how we should do our job to make everything easier next time, but they do it in such a fashion to where we can understand where their coming from.

So I guess that's all the complaining I can do for this morning! Check back for new blogs!!!
