Most of you know how closely cancer has touched Jason when his best childhood friend, Charlie, was diagnosed 7 years ago. The experience was the inspiration for his song "The Remedy" and we've heard from thousands of fans who have been lifted from their personal struggles with cancer by "The Remedy".

Jason joins Melissa Etheridge and many others tomorrow night [which is now tonight, Friday, September 5th] performing on the 'Stand Up To Cancer' show at 8pm EST. The show will be broadcast on the ABC, CBS and NBC networks simultaneously and hosted by Melissa Etheridge.

It's still weird for me to see Mraz be so popular and commercial and... you know...  heard of. For years I could mention him and have people just look at me like, "Yeah, never heard of him. I'm sure he's swell, whatever, stop talking to me now, but leave the brownies."

Lately though, I turn on the radio, flip past MTV or VH1, open a magazine, and there he is. Huh. It's good though. More people to prophecize to and stuff, right?

Meanwhile, I just keep listening to the Dr. Horrible soundtrack (now available on iTunes). Neil Patrick Harris is the man. ("Balls.")

In his very early thirties, this Virginia-born singer-songwriter is Mr. Cool, both in my daughter's books and mine.  He is one of those boys that a mother wouldn't mind having her daughter bring home one day.  He looks like a simple boy-next-door who loves to sing, play with his words, babble... and  be actually good at it!

He is so cool... that my DD actually searched the internet and found that he would be conveniently staging a concert in Paris on September 24!  She begged, cajoled, pleaded and bribed to get me to buy the tickets ... which I eventually succumbed to (after watching his videos that were just conveniently showing in every TV set we had at home!).  Unfortunately, by the time I succumbed, the tickets were sold out.  What was originally selling on his site for EU23 per person had now sky-rocketed to EU109 on other internet ticketing sites.

DH and I thought it might be a nice event for her to look forward to, along with the move to Paris... so we closed our eyes and bought it.  Two tickets for mother and daughter to enjoy a happy hip hot concert of Mraz.

Then, the bad news.  DD's first school field trip just got scheduled smack into the concert date.  The school is going on a field trip to Cote d' Azur on the French Riviera for 3 days.  Brainless choice, right?  School comes first, as my Mother always said.  So daughter is bumming because she can't be in two places at one time.  Mother is bumming even more because... what the hell do I do with those tickets now?  It's not like I can peddle them on the streets on concert day.  In French? ... Nahhh. I can't ask DH to watch it with me ... unless I trick him and say it's a concert of Johnny Hallyday.  And even if he miraculously agrees, what are we to do with my little 4-year old?

I even tried to sell the tickets back to the vendor, tried to resell it through a Ticketing Site (GetMeIn) ... no luck.  So if anyone is in Paris and just happens to be free on the 24th of September, give me a ring.

So... Let's add some salt on the wound and dream about what we will be missing...

[strike one.] i've been babysitting a little monster named paige since last december and i am the first to admit that she has become like a little sister to me. today was the last time i will probably ever see her again. it made me a little choked up.

[strike two.] this lady i work with, anna, she's a little crazy, but she's still cool. she gave my uncle an apartment. let's just say we've been there for each other a bit. she called and she planned a breakfast for tomorrow morning for just the two of us. i was supposed to go to a dinner with everyone from my job. but that got canceled, due to some unfortunate events.

[strike three.] yesterday's events with my grandmother. yes. twas sad. and i thought about it again today. on top of all of this. and to add to this all i had to do was speak to my ex lover. we have quite a history. oh what a history. and just talking to him and knowing that he won't be in the next town. or the next state even. or the next tri-state region for that matter. 

i lost it. and i haven't even gotten there yet. but i can't do this! i can't be a pussy. not now. not so soon. i'm not even there yet. i haven't even tasted my success yet. and the thing that makes this so much harder is that everyone is counting on me. even this random lady in the hair salon said to me, "we're counting on you, Cadence. we're gonna see you on t.v. and say 'she washed my hair!'" tell me that isn't a tearjerker in itself. 

someone. throw me a lifesaver. please? anything. just tell me its gonna be okay.

Well, we couldn't let the prospect of bad weather get us down.  I heard this one twice while on the road today.  Come to find out this video has been played about 16 million times on YouTube.  Needless to say I like the song and you should too.  Wasn't this guy on American Idol?

Oh maaann... I'm in love with this song called "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz!  It's sooooo... soothing.  I really want to learn how to play this on the guitar.   Speaking of the guitar, I haven't touched it since last school year (which is a real bummer).  I was suppose to practice it over the summer but I have no one to play it with! :( ... hopefully this school year though!

As mentioned before, I loooooove music. If music had a pair of long legs and killer eyes, I'd marry her. Anyhow, a great part of music is a live performance. I remember being at a Muse concert and just being amazed at the crowd interaction... its such a beautiful thing to see. Just being one of several thousand, everyone intent on bringing their hands together to the beat... nothing else mattered. The crowds voice rang out as one and as goosebumps broke out over me I had to stop and take a breath as I was overwhelmed by the experience. Good fucking times.
