What may very well be Mumbai's tallest known tower, and one of India's tallest commercial towers had been announced by K Raheja Universal Builders!

The 85 floor (!) nearly 300m tall signature Raheja Platinum skyscraper is the one of those towers that aims that will break the mental/cultural dam holding back corporate skyscraper construction in Mumbai.

Located in Upper Worli (aka Lower Parel), Raheja Platinum will rub shoulders with a slew of supertalls and skyscrapers that represent the transformation of old textile mill land to worldclass real estate.

Mumbai's skyscraper boom has almost entirely consisted of residential highrise development. The reasons for these are many, but namely because residential skyscrapers, especially with integrated retail, hospitality, and anemities, produce far less strain on infrastructure than their purely commercial counterparts, whose workers would all need to commute to the tower every day. Secondly, for the longest time, India's banking, service, R&D and IT companies preferred glassy, sprawling lowrise campuses -- more of a college campus look and feel -- than towers.

With infrastructure redevelopment now likewise booming in Mumbai, coupled with a change in corporate culture, the future landmark skyscraper projects proposed in Mumbai are increasingly commercial in nature. Leading this change from the front is one of Mumbai's largest real estate developers, K Raheja Universal, who are actively promoting commercial skyscraper construction as a necessity for Mumbai, and the only way to halt sprawl.

Their signature commercial tower project that they have implied in interviews over the years, Raheja Platinum, actually originally started off as a rather modest proposal of only 40 floors.

But with a slew of commercial supertall construction announced in a number major Indian metros outside of Mumbai, and in the Raheja Universial company habit of suddenly upscaling their projects in height and design right before groundbreaking, K Raheja Universal surprised all Indian skyscraper watchers when they suddenly redesigned Platinum to almost double its height to 80 stories.

This was BIG news. It was the difference from having a pretty cool looking, but ultimately kind of dwarfish commerical tower that, overshadowed by residential towers, would only be visible from certain areas of the city to a game changing height and design that would leave a lasting mark on the entire of Mumbai's skyline.

Raheja platinum suddenly became one of those signature towers that defines a city and its skyline.

Whenever I buy something new, I always like to check out the commercials that are out there for either the specific thing I bought or at the very least the company that makes it. Like I said before, my dad just recently bought a new 2008 Volkswagon Jetta. Below is an older commercial for a 2002ish Jetta that I remember watching way back when. In my opinion its one of the best commercials that VW has aired ever.

The theme of the commercial is The Wedding or The Big Day in which a guy races to the wedding of the woman he loves (in his super fast Jetta of course) and arrives just in time to crash the wedding right when the Minister says, "speak now or forever hold your peace." Step 1 - Analyze This Investment
There are many things that you must invest in when learning how to fly. The most important investment is the time investment. It is suggested that student pilots schedule flight lessons three days a week, for one-hour time slots. Consistently coming to all of your lessons is important. No relation to Clarke Griswold of the infamous "Vacation" movies, but by the note throwing in his speech and the plugs of humor in his lecture, you'd probably think different. No no, it's RISWOLD, and this past Thursday the Ad Dept of Art Center was treated to a true legend in the industry (and for you sneaker heads out there, you could probably appreciate this guy)--Jim Riswold.

Jim is known in the ad world for his work at Wieden + Kennedy, the Portland-based, Worldwide Ad Agency responsible for Nike's timeless "Just Do It" mantra. Jim's claim to fame at WK lies within such legendary spots of the Bo Jackson "Bo Knows...", Charles Barkey "Not a Role Model", and Tiger Woods "I'm Tiger Woods" campaigns.

But as far as Jim's celebrity (or at least to me!) within the ad world is his work on Michael Jordan's "Mars 'Is It The Shoes?!" Blackmon" and "Space Jam" spots.

Nowadays, Jim spends his time in the art world dealing with photography and such topics as Hitler, Napolean, Chairman Mao, and Marie Antoinette. He freelances from time to time, but these days taking it easy due to his fight with leukemia. One this day, he graciously entertained us with his "How hitler Changed My Life" lecture as well as a few tidbits here and there about the ad industry and his experiences in it. I feel very fortunate and honored to have seen this man.
