It’s October 13, 2008, just this year I turned 23 without even noticing… The last time I remembered really celebrating my birthday was when I turned 21…. That was the fateful day before everything turned into a rollercoaster ride that I really just can’t focus unto the moment … But rather I’ve been focusing on the end of this ride… Didn’t notice that I’ve already brushed aside this short thrilling ride…  That I missed every minute that gone by… Every dancing notes of joy that goes through its ups and downs… The pleasure of screaming… of soaring and falling together with the whole crowd… But… I had my gaze settled on that red light… Now, it’s starting to settle on me… And just now, it has become too tiring to even think of it… to look at it or even to simply make a small step towards the end… Looking back at that ride, I don’t remember a thing… I had it all for the taking but missed them all along the way… Now its like I haven’t gotten an inch further from where I once was when I’m 21… I missed simply everything…

Now walking along these isles, I had this weary feeling brought by the never-ending chase for that red light… for the finish line… I badly needed that time off… for some quiet melody to fill me in… Just across the street I saw that lone tree… I went near it just to find shade to rest unto… I loved it… That feeling grew inside and just as I looked up… I saw a leaf fell from it… It’s not yet withered yet it fell off… Then it made me ponder on some things… that red light is not a promise of rest… Rather it’s a signal to pause at the crossroads… to look and listen to ourselves for a little while… that we also needed to breathe for a while before diving on to another road… And that finish line was not a sign of stopping rather it’s a calling for another challenge… for another story waiting to unfold… Life is a compilation of an infinite number of stories to be told just when your time would end… stories that we are tasked to engraved on a solid foundation to remain for eternity… To make a lasting page… to make those who’ll be left behind remember of how it was once… How a soul is given the responsibility to make a niche of its own leaving footprints behind… Maybe not to leave a path for others to follow but rather to leave a memory… a lesson… for them to find a better road… a more thrilling ride…

And I’m wondering how I let those days passed me… How I wasn’t able to write on the pages… I had them all in black and white…

With a sigh, I had to go back to that race… but I’ll have to keep in mind that this is a race with my own self… And that I have myself to beat… my yesterdays to improve… that is the race I’m going to win… A continuous cycle of growing into a better person… better than that of year ago… better than a minute ago… this is the challenge that I have to take… A path I’m willing to go through… Its not a promise of an easier ride but rather a more twisted one… Its like a tunnel filled with fire… but just enjoy the warmth of the ride… Its never meant to put you into ashes but rather to mold you into a finer YOU…

Soon enough, I’d be old enough to look back and remember those pages… to be singing those rhymes and melodies of these days as I go down this rainbow to that pot of gold…

Then… I just remembered that day when I once was on that other side… when I’m about to begin this journey… when I’m about to choose the colors… the music to fill my days… I remember how I kept on looking and imagining this side… Now, it’s a bit clearer… How people may oftentimes looked at the other side of things before they even get there… Like when they start a journey, how they may sleep over the trip then wake up when it’s finally over… How when we’re given one end of the rope, we would still aspire for the other end… How we always want things all at the same time… Funny but we do… how we may want to know the end of the story just when we’re only at the first page…

It’s great to have both ends under your control…? It maybe nice to know what the future holds… but then, why is it not given? Coz, we tend to lose the thrill of living the days ahead… Maybe it’s nice to be looking at the mirror once in a while. Why? Coz it’s exactly what we need… What you see is simply what you have at the moment… Not what you are in the past nor of what you will be in the future… It’s that simple present you… And if you don’t like it? It’s up to you to pull the rope further… to flip and write in the pages further one day at a time… Just who knows that after all that… You’ll see a better you…

I just realized that life is not something you should be rushing with… It’s only as good as you’ve made it to be… Where you are right now is exactly where your footsteps have taken you… Your fate is right within your hands… It’s up to you to let it go or to keep it as it is… Or maybe you’d want to let it grow… or even make it fly… How we do it is out of the story. We’re given every path to take… all the choices we could make…

Keep it real… keep it faithfully…

Actually to solve this problem is very easy - you can resize many photos with other simple program such as ACDSee. I use ACDSee as my photo browser - I think it's better than windows image viewer, sometimes I also use ACDSee to automate batch resize or rename. The reason I use ACDSee to resize or rename because it takes less memory and faster than Photoshop. But for special case we can't depend only on ACDsee - because sometimes you need other editing such as leveling, curve, color balance, contrast & brightness, etc. For example you need to do autolevel and change brightness & contrast for many photos - you don't need to click every photo and doing it manually. You can do this by make an action or script and using automate batch for many photos.

Now in order to make an action, you need to click Window->Action, after that you will see action menu. In action menu you'll only see Default Actions. You need to choose new action to make an action script (see below).

You can type any name for your action script - in my case I type 'test'. I will give simple example - that maybe not simple if we doing it using ACDsee - I want to do autolevel, desaturate, and watermark  for my photos. You can do autolevel, desaturate the photo and  make watermark (for example  'http://edwinsetiawan.wordpress.com' for all my picture). You will have action list: level, desaturate, and make text layer. Don't forget to save as & close the photo, and stop action recording.

After you succesfull to make an action, you need to copy the photo that you need to edit automatically into one directory (example I use F:\test\) . In order to do automatically call the action script you can click File->Automate->Batch. In Batch dialog box you can select action that you need to apply on your picture (in my case I use 'test' action). Select the source from your photo directory and destination folder - in my case i use F:\test\ as source directory and F:\result\ as destination directory.  Below destination folder you can see override action save as command, this is important if you want to change file name (for example: A01.A02,A03,etc...) and change extension (bmp,jpg,gif,etc).

It is small and supports most basic image editing operations. It probably the best tool to manage images around.

5. GIMP 2.6.0
Does this image editor need introduction for most graphics artists? It is always one step beyond on other free photoshop alternatives and it is probably the alternative with the most functions which supports the most platforms. It supports Windows as well as Linux and Mac OSX. Beware : Beginning users will fear the many windows GIMP consists of.

6. FastStone Photo Resizer 2.7
Ah, the second FastStone. This one is the best Batch photo resizer around. It resizes your pictures at high speed to any size. It is stable and small as well as easy in use. Once again as its brothers, it supports a high amount of filetypes.

 7. XnView 1.94.2
XnView is the cross-platform version of IrfanView. Fast, efficient and supporting nearly any filetype, XnView is a standard application on all linux systems and maybe also on your PC? Basic operations are possible and just like IrfanView, you can also view or play music and other multimedia files. What we call an all-rounder.

 8. Image Resizer 1.1
A small version of FastStone's Image resize. This image resizer only supports BMP, GIF and JPEG. It has Batch functions, is fast and is easy to use. It just gets the job done!

9. DriveHQ Batch Photo Editor 1.8.025
A basic image editing application which focuses on most common operators and the uploading of your creations. AlhamdulIllah, balik bercuti sebulan kali ini dapat aku isi dengan pelbagai aktiviti yang jarang dibuat sebelum ini. Antaranya ialah, ber'reunion' bersama sahabat-sahabat dari DUA sekolah menengah! Satunya reunion Madid*, satu lagi reunion SMAKL**.

Yang paling meriah bagi aku ialah iftar bersama member-member Madid, dibuat di Putrajaya pada 21 September. Mana taknya, sudah 8 tahun kami tidak bersua! Yang dulu dibangku sekolah hingus penuh di muka, sekarang sudah muka macam bapa/mak kepada dua orang anak pun ada (aku la tu). (Nasib baik takde yang betul-betul datang bawak anak, kalo tak down gak aritu.) Memang penuh bermakna.

Kami makan di Taman Ekuesterian Negara, berbuffet di situ. Makanan di situ, okla. Selepas makan dan bersolat, kitorang ke Alamanda Mall pula, untuk ber'second round' (orang Jepun panggil nijikai) dengan berbowling. Sambil-sambil itu kami bertanya khabar, ada yang sudah bekerja, ada yang sudah/akan berkahwin. Semua sudah membawa diri masing-masing ke jalan yang berbeza.

Minggu berikutnya pula, seolah-olah dirancang rapi, aku berreunion dengan member-member SMAKL. Dibuat di Sabak Taman Melati pada 27 September. Memang bes, sebab sebelah rumah aku! Jadi aku ke sana berjalan kaki sahaja. Member yang lain ada terlewat datang sebab jam dan takde parking. Kalau malam, untuk mendapat parking di deretan kedai di sini memang payah.

Restorannya cuba menampilkan konsep kekampungan, siap ada band yang menyanyikan lagu melayu lama sambil kitorg makan.

Makanan yang disediakan pelbagai, tetapi ada juga yang kehabisan stok. Itulah akibat terima budak-budak SMAKL beriftar di situ! Sambil menunggu steamboat dan BBQ masak, sempat juga bertanya kehidupan masing-masing. Ada juga yang masih belajar seperti aku, ada juga yang sudah bertukar tempat kerja, ada juga yang mengajar di Sarawak!

Reunion SMAKL seperti ini pernah dibuat 4 tahun dahulu, jadi walaupun memang gembira bertemu member lama, tetapi tidak segembira bertemu member yang sudah 8 tahun lamanya tidak berjumpa.

Maka aku terfikir semula, memang ada hikmahnya aku ini belajar di luar negara. Dapat berjumpa member lama sekali sekala, tetapi sekali jumpa penuh bermakna. Ada saja segelintir member yang setiap tahun akan berjumpa, tetapi aku rasa itu bukan namanya reunion, tetapi untuk itu istilah get-together lebih sesuai. Dan dari segi ke'bermakna'an perjumpaan itu memang kurang berbanding bertahun-tahun tidak berjumpa.

Apa-apa pun, jutaan terima kasih diucapkan kepada member-member yang bertungkus lumus mengurus dan berhubung dengan semua untuk menjayakan program reunion tahun ini. Terutamanya kepada pengurus reunion SMAKL, kerana siap menyenaraikan kontek rakan-rakan serta merancang untuk menghasilkan majalah batch! Aku tabik korang!

Memang terasa berbaloi aku balik di bulan Ramadhan kali ini. Yang paling bes ialah kerana, aku telah pun merancang untuk pulang sebelum tahu tentang rancangan kedua-dua reunion. (Yang Madid lagi la, dapat tahu dua hari sebelum!)

Secondly the first batch of promos before they were sent off. Well... to be honest, they haven't been sent away yet. Not my fault. I went down to the Candy Troll to buy stamps. They were out. Shipping starts tomorow.

Third but not last... well, not true: Last. Me and the Boo went out fora nice eavning walk. It's getting pretty chilly here in The Gigantic! Hat time:

In order to satisfy this requirement I have 2 separate folders which I use to manage my scripts. The first folder being "c:\sqlscripts\" which I use for storing automation scripts & utility scripts, and secondly a folder in which I keep scripts that I will run "c:\sqlsource\".

The first step is to create a batch file as a deployment template for deploying changes

I then save this file as "c:\sqlscripts\run_script_on_environment_name_database_name.bat" in a convenient folder of my choosing, for the purposes of this example "c:\sqlscripts\".  Replace environment_name and database_name with values suitable to your specific need.

When its time to run scripts on an environment, I assemble a list of files choose the method I will use to run these items from the command line.

# run all non-hidden files in directory

There are several tweaks that one can do to customize this process, however these tweaks would be based entirely on your personal preferences.  

By all means I can imagine people ranting about having separate files for each environment. This was a choice I made because of my own devices. You could easily parameterize the entire batch file and produce a script such as the one below and pass all your arguments in at run time. 

osql -S %1 -d %2-i "%5/%6" -o "%7\%6.%1.%2.log" -U %3-P %4 -n

%1 => servername
%2 => databasename
%3  => username
%4 => password
%5 => sourcefolder
%6 => sourcefile
%7 => logfolder 

If you choose to do so, go right ahead, however I like to have everything setup in my file and keep my parameters to a minimum. 

Do what suits you. In the near future I am going to recreate this process in VBScript. Reason being, I would like to

1. Timestamp the log files, so if the scripts errors out, I create a new log file each time. This would also provide neatly time stamped log files of the deployment &/or rollback process, which would be sweet for debugging on a testing environment.

2. Introduce error checking. If I do not have any print statements, and SET NOCOUNT ON, then I could theoretically say that if the log file size is greater than zero, the script failed, and I should automatically run the rollback statement.

I am wondering whether I should use Powershell or VBScript to do this. I have not looked into Powershell enough at this point to determine if this is a good option, any comments would definitely be appreciated.

Como configurar la IP
Lo más fácil es llamar al programa con una serie de parámetros, para así configurar más fácil y rápida la cosa.
Netsh interface IP set address “Conexión” static <IP> <mascaradered> <puertadeenlace> <metric>

• “Conexión”: es el nombre de tu conexión, en mi caso fue "Conexión de red inalámbrica". Checa bien los acentos porque con una letra que este mal ya marca error.
• <IP>: es tu dirección IP
• <mascaradered>: Es la máscara de red, jeje
• <puertadeenlace>: es la IP de la puerta de enlace
• <metric>: yo se que alguien sabrá que es esto, pero yo no lo puse en mi bat y todo jalo bien.

Como configurar la DNS

La operacion es igual a lo anterior solo que en ves de address se pone dns , que es pues el servidor DNS, y solo se incluye una direccion.

Agregando la DNS preferencial

netsh interface ip set dns "Conexión" static <direccion>

Y para la alternativa

netsh interface ip add dns name="Conexión" addr=<direccion2> index=2
Volver al estado original

Pues esto es casi lo mismo, solo que hay que especificar que ahora la direccion IP y DNS la obtenga automaticamente del siguiente modo:

Para la IP:

Para la DNS:

Netsh interface IP set dnsserver “Conexión”  source=DHCP

A step closer to my dream

Today marks the day that I am one step closer to becoming an official staff of GE. The whole reception today started off with a simple rehearsal and then, continued with the introduction of all the pre-offered. In between, we had a couple of CEOs from different businesses who gave us the welcome messages saying how proud we should be to be able to join the GE family. Had an absolutely enjoyable time with my future colleagues and this makes me really want to start working as soon as possible ! It takes time to explain everything that happened today so I am leaving you with the pictures to explain to you. Enjoy them ! :)

Jeg har døpt programmet TMPcleaner (Kort for Temporary files Cleaner). Det er et program som rydder opp å sletter miderligtidige filer på datamaskinen, som ikke brukes til noe, å som bare tar opp plass å gjøre PCen treg.

Using the RAM Disk Setup the Windows TEMP Directory to the RAM Disk:

1. Create a Batch File with the following content:
set TEMP=T:
set TMP=T:

2.Put this Batch File into the Startup Folder of Windows.

Warning:

Use AR Soft RAM Disk at your own risk.
Using large amount of memory for the RAM Disk can cause problems with other drivers or programs.
Notes:
If you reboot your system all contents of the RAM Disk will be lost!
The theoretical maximum capacity of the RAM Disk is 2GB.
If driver fails to allocate the memory, the driver does not start. The driver writes an event record into the Event Log. Please look into the Event Viewer for more details of the error.
Package contains:
RAM Disk Driver for Windows NT or Windows 2000/XP
RAM Disk Control Panel Applet

What do you batch to save time?

Following is a data from my mail to some aspirant of CCNA Certification. I tried my best to give exact details of IIHT DADAR Institute(Mumbai).

So bare with following details,

I have enrolled for IIHT Dadar center [Mumbai], since I have attended not more than 6 lectures institute have conducted, my course has just began.

 

Faculty and Labs from IIHT Dadar are excellent, faculty have done there CCNPs and other Professional courses in regards with the Course they are conducting [CCNA in case here].

Labs at Dadar have some good equipment for hands-on for routers and switches.

 

but you have to confirm with your course timing as soon as possible you took admission for Course, I have chosen to take a Sunday batch [ mostly of 3 hrs] since I will be looking for job, in weekdays. I have completed my Graduation.

Regular batches I think are of 1 hr.

 

The Institute will expect some networking knowledge before to your CCNA course [E+ OR N+ ]. My BSc.IT background was eligible enough for Course.

 

Since no eligibility is required for the CCNA course; you should be having some prior knowledge or experience with Networking for your sake.

 

At IIHT Dadar they are referring Todd Lammle's CCNA book. No direct Study material but for personal reference.

Ausgangsposition war, dass der Referierende den Podcast "Afterworld" hört. Dieser hat aber immer einen Vorspann, der beim Konsum von mehreren Folgen schnell nerven kann. Also war die Grundidee, dass man den Vorspann und den Abspann mittels eines Batch-Scripts aus den Dateien abschneidet. Nur leider haben die Jungs vom Digitalen Grundrauschen es mittels Applescript nicht geschafft, die beschnittenen Dateien zu speichern...

Da ich aber eh nicht auf Mac OSX arbeite, hat sich mir die Frage gestellt, ob und wie das auf der Bash, der Linux-Shell geht...

Schnell war die Lösung gefunden: Mplayer, bzw. Mencoder!
Beide Tools befinden sich in den Standard-Ubuntu-Repositories und können schnell installiert werden:
sudo apt-get install mplayer mencoder

Der Schnitt geht schnell und einfach:

mencoder input.avi -ovc copy -oac mp3lame -ss 12 -endpos 5 -o output.avi

Erklärung der Parameter:
-ovc copy: den Original Video Codec der Input-Datei übernehmen
-oac mp3lame: den Original Audio Codec der Input-Datei als MP3-codierten Stream übernehmen
-ss 12: Seek Start beginnt ab der Position 12 Sekunden der Input-Datei
-endpos 5: Die Kodierung endet 5 Sekunden vor dem Ende der Input-Datei
-o output.avi: Ausgabe (Output) erfolg nach Datei "output.avi"

Mit diesen Angaben lässt sich schnell eine Batch-Datei schreiben, die über alle Filme in einem Ordner geht und diese zurechtstutzt... Töfte Angelegenheit! Ein Grund mehr, warum ich Linux so toll finde!
